The Birley Arms

We have a large popular beer garden with undercover sections and a smoking section. The beer garden will hold up to 200. A childrens play area for under 10’s. The 5 cl caravan pitch has access to a shower room and toilet facilities up until midnight.

The Birley Arms has been around since 1642. In actual fact the place is mentioned in the Doomsday book. At one time in it’s past it was called the Red Heart. There was a battle in a local field between Oliver Cromwells army and the loyalists. A soldier from Cromwells army having killed a loyalist removed his heart with his spear and pinned the heart to the door with the loyalists own dagger and a note, no more killing. Consequently it has had many owners until we The Bensons’ arrived and fell in love with the run down pub /Inn. It took us many years to reach the point that we are today but we have achieved it with the help/ support and friendship of our wonderful staff.

We offer a wide range of beers , lagers and cask ales that we change on a weekly basis. Snacks can also be purchased from our menu.

The Birley Arms offers a small function room for up to about forty guests. We have organised many small and intimate weddings along with birthday parties, engagements, baby showers and funerals.
